This Privacy Policy explains how SoloUp ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares and protects information about you when you use the SoloUp mobile application and related services (together, the "Service").

We wrote it to be read. If something here is unclear, write to us at support@soloupapp.com.

By creating an account or using the Service you confirm that you have read this policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Service.

1. Who we are

SoloUp is a goal-planning app. You tell us a goal, answer a few questions, and the Service builds a plan of milestones and daily tasks. You can track your progress, earn trophies, and, if you choose, share your goal with friends and the community.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what the Service needs to work. The sections below list each kind of information, where it comes from and why we have it.

2.1 Information you give us

InformationWhen you give itWhy we need it
NameWhen you sign up, and when you edit your profileTo address you in the app and to show your name to friends you have chosen to share with
Email addressWhen you sign in with Google, Apple or an emailed codeTo create and recognise your account, and to send you sign-in codes
Profile photo (optional)When you pick or take a photo, or when your Google account supplies oneTo show on your profile and to friends
Phone numberWhen you add and verify your phone numberTo let friends who already have your number in their contacts find you on SoloUp, and to schedule notifications at sensible local times
Your goalWhen you create a goal: the goal text, its length in months, and your answers to our follow-up questionsTo build your personalised plan
Plan activityAs you use the app: tasks you tick off, check-ins, notes you write on tasks, schedules you set for recurring tasks, completed or abandoned goalsTo run the plan, show your progress and award trophies
Community contentIf you post, like or comment in the community feed: your posts, comments and likesTo show them to other users
ReportsIf you report a postTo review content that may break our rules
Messages to usIf you write to supportTo answer you

Onboarding answers. During onboarding we ask a few questions to tailor what you see, such as your age range, the kind of goal you have and how you feel about it. These answers stay on your device while you use the onboarding screens and are not stored on our servers. The goal you enter and your answers to the goal questions are different: they are sent to us because they are needed to build your plan.

Goal video. The app lets you record a short video message to yourself. That video is saved on your device only. We do not upload it or have access to it. If you delete the app, the video goes with it.

2.2 Information we get from sign-in providers

  • Sign in with Google: we receive your Google account identifier, name, email address and profile photo.
  • Sign in with Apple: we receive your Apple account identifier and, if you allow it, your name and email address. If you choose Apple's "Hide My Email", we receive Apple's private relay address instead of your real email.
  • Sign in with email: we receive the email address you type and the code you enter. We store only a scrambled (hashed) version of each code, and it expires after a short time.

We do not receive your Google or Apple password.

2.3 Information from your device (only with your permission)

PermissionWhat we use it forIf you say no
ContactsTo show which of the people in your contacts are already on SoloUp. See section 5.Everything else works. You just will not see friends.
CameraTo take a profile photo and to record your goal video messageYou can pick a photo from your gallery instead, or skip the video
MicrophoneTo record sound for your goal video messageThe video feature will not record sound
Photos / galleryTo choose a profile pictureYou can take a photo with the camera instead
NotificationsTo remind you about your tasks and to tell you when friends reach milestonesYou will not receive reminders
VibrationTo give small haptic feedbackNone

You can change any of these permissions at any time in your phone's settings.

2.4 Information collected automatically

  • Device and technical data: a push-notification token (so we can send you notifications), a device identifier used to tell devices apart and to help prevent abuse, your device's operating system and language settings, and basic request information such as your IP address and the time of each request, which our servers record for security and troubleshooting.
  • Time zone and region: worked out from your phone number (if you verified one), so reminders arrive at a sensible hour for you.
  • Usage limits: we count how many goals you create and when you try to create them. This enforces the monthly goal allowance and stops people from flooding the Service with automated requests.
  • Subscription information: your plan (none, monthly or yearly), whether it is active, when it expires, which store it was bought in, and a purchase identifier. We do not see or store your card number or payment details. Those stay with Apple, Google or the store you bought from.

2.5 What we do not collect

  • We do not collect your precise or approximate location.
  • We do not use advertising identifiers and we do not show third-party ads.
  • We do not use third-party advertising or behavioural-analytics SDKs, and we do not track you across other companies' apps and websites.
  • We do not read the contents of your messages, photos or files on your device.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  1. Provide the Service: create your account, build and update your plan, track your progress, run recurring tasks, award trophies, and show your goal to friends you have chosen.
  2. Personalise the plan: turn your goal and your answers into milestones and tasks using artificial intelligence (see section 4).
  3. Send notifications: reminders about your tasks and, depending on your settings and your friends' settings, updates about friends' progress. Task-completion updates for friends are grouped and sent a few times a day.
  4. Process subscriptions: confirm that you have an active plan, unlock paid features and apply goal allowances.
  5. Keep the Service safe: detect and prevent abuse, spam, fraud and unlawful content, enforce our Terms, and review reported posts.
  6. Communicate with you: send sign-in codes, answer support requests and tell you about important changes to the Service or these policies.
  7. Improve the Service: fix bugs, understand which features are working, and plan improvements, using aggregated or de-identified information where possible.
  8. Meet legal obligations: comply with law, respond to lawful requests and protect our rights.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Legal bases (EEA, UK and similar regions)

Where the General Data Protection Regulation or a similar law applies, we rely on:

  • Performance of a contract to provide the Service you asked for (accounts, plans, subscriptions).
  • Legitimate interests to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and improve it, balanced against your rights.
  • Consent for optional things such as contacts access, notifications, camera and microphone, and for optional features you switch on. You can withdraw consent at any time in your device settings or in the app.
  • Legal obligation where the law requires us to keep or disclose information.

4. Artificial intelligence

The core of SoloUp is an AI planner. To build your plan we send the goal you type, its length, and your answers to the follow-up questions to AI providers that process them on our behalf. This includes:

  • Anthropic (the Claude models), to check that a goal is something we can help with, to write the follow-up questions, to check your free-text answers, and to write your milestones and tasks.
  • OpenAI, to run an automated safety check on text you submit.

We send these providers only what is needed for the request. We do not send your name, email address, phone number or profile photo with it. We use providers' business or API services under terms that, as of the date above, do not allow them to use API content to train their general models. Providers may retain requests for a limited period for abuse prevention, as set out in their own policies.

Please keep in mind:

  • Do not put sensitive details in your goal or answers. Anything you type there is processed by the AI providers and stored in your plan. This includes health conditions, precise financial information, government identifiers, and information about other people.
  • AI can be wrong. Plans are suggestions, not professional advice. See our Terms for details.
  • Automated decisions. Some goals are declined automatically (for example, if they are unsafe, unlawful or not a real goal). A person is not involved in each such decision. If you think a goal was declined by mistake, you can rephrase it or write to us.
  • We record how much AI processing each goal uses, to manage cost and to detect abuse.

5. Contacts and friends

SoloUp can help you find friends who are already using it.

  • If you grant access to contacts and have verified a phone number, the app reads the names and phone numbers in your address book and sends them to our server only to check which of those numbers belong to SoloUp users.
  • Our server returns the matches. It does not keep your contacts' names or phone numbers. It stores only a link between your account and each matching SoloUp account, and replaces those links each time you sync.
  • People in your contacts who are not on SoloUp are not stored and are not contacted by us. If you choose to invite someone, the invitation is sent by you through your own phone's share options.
  • Phone number visibility: another SoloUp user can find you this way only if you have verified your number and they have your number in their contacts.
  • Your goal is private by default. In Settings you choose who may see your goal and progress: everyone, nobody, only people you list, or everyone except people you list. Notifications to friends about your progress follow the same setting.

You can turn contacts access off at any time in your phone's settings, and you can remove your phone number by deleting your account and data.

6. Who we share information with

We share information only with the following groups, and only as far as needed.

6.2 Other users

What other users see depends on what you do:

  • Friends: your name, profile photo and, if you allow it, your goal and progress. See section 5.
  • Community feed: if you post, comment or like, those items, with your name and photo, can be seen by other users of the feed.

Be careful what you post. Others may copy or screenshot it.

6.3 Legal and safety

We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that it is required by law or valid legal process, or necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of you, us, or others, including to investigate fraud and abuse.

6.4 Business transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that deal. We will tell you before it becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

6.5 With your consent

We share information in other ways only if you ask us to or agree to it.

7. International transfers

We and our service providers may process and store your information in countries other than your own, including India, the United States and other countries where those providers operate. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from yours.

Where we transfer personal information out of the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, we use appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, or rely on the provider's participation in an approved framework.

8. How long we keep information

InformationHow long
Account details, goals, plans, tasks, progressFor as long as your account exists
Posts, comments and likesUntil you delete them or delete your account
Email and phone sign-in codesA few minutes, then they expire and are removed. Hashed copies are never kept longer than needed.
Contact-match linksReplaced on every sync, and removed with your account
Server logs and security recordsNormally up to 90 days, longer only if needed to investigate abuse or meet a legal duty
Subscription and purchase recordsAs long as needed for accounting, tax and dispute purposes, as required by law
BackupsDeleted copies may remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days before being overwritten

When you delete your account, we delete or irreversibly de-identify your personal information as described in section 9, except where we must keep some of it by law.

9. Your choices and rights

9.1 Deleting your account

You can delete your account and data yourself in the app. Open Profile and choose Delete All Data. This permanently removes your account and everything linked to it: your profile and profile photo, goals, milestones, tasks and notes, saved questions, posts, comments and likes, and contact-match links. This cannot be undone.

Deleting your data does not cancel a subscription. Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, so you must cancel them in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. See our Terms.

If you cannot use the in-app option, email support@soloupapp.com from the address on your account and we will delete it for you.

9.2 Other rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you and get a copy.
  • Correct information that is wrong or incomplete. You can edit most of it in the app.
  • Delete your information (see 9.1).
  • Object to or restrict some of our processing.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting what we did before you withdrew.
  • Data portability: receive your information in a commonly used format.
  • Complain to a data protection authority. In the EEA and UK you can contact your local authority. In India, you can write to us first and then approach the Data Protection Board.

To use these rights, write to support@soloupapp.com. We may need to confirm that the request really comes from you. We aim to reply within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for using your rights.

9.3 Notifications

You can switch off push notifications in your device settings at any time.

9.4 Residents of California and other US states

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are defined in California law. In the last 12 months we have collected the categories of information listed in section 2 (identifiers, commercial information about subscriptions, internet or app activity, and inferences such as your plan progress) for the purposes in section 3. California residents may request to know, delete or correct their information, and may use an authorised agent to do so, by writing to support@soloupapp.com.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) between the app and our servers, access controls on our systems, private storage for profile photos, and hashing of sign-in codes. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.

You can help by keeping your phone secure and by not sharing your sign-in codes.

11. Children

SoloUp is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. In some countries the minimum age is higher (for example, 16 in parts of the EEA), and where it is, you must be at least that old to use the Service without a parent's consent.

If you believe a child has given us personal information, write to support@soloupapp.com and we will delete it.

12. Community content is public to other users

If you choose to post in the community feed, that content can be seen by other users. We cannot control what people do with content they can see. Delete a post and we remove it from the Service, but copies others have already made may remain.

13. Third-party links and services

The app may link to websites or services that we do not control, such as the App Store, Google Play or our legal pages. Their privacy practices are their own. Please read their policies.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we add a feature. We will change the "Last updated" date above. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Using the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
